The Drakensberg Canopy Tour

With Westline Aviation. Who have 2 helicopters stationed full time at Dragon Peaks Park. They are operational 7 days a week, from sunrise till sunset. Let them show you the Drakensberg and its surroundings.

Fishing

Berghavens dams are stocked with Bass, which you are more than welcome to fish on. Trout fishing can be found at Drakensberg Sun and Champagne Castle. Other fishing can be done at Spioenkop Dam and Bell Park.

Golf

The Champagne Valley has 2 courses to choose from. Monks Cowl Country Club which is a 9-hole course with 18 tees. Contact 036 468 1300

Champagne Sports Resort boasts a championship 18-hole course. Contact 036 468 1088

Cathedral Peaks Golf Course is a 9-hole course with 18 tees, very scenic and about 45 minutes away. Contact 036 48 1888

Hiking

The KZN Wildlife Monks Cowl Reserve, entrance to the world heritage site UKhahlamba, has hiking trails ranging from 1 hour to more challenging all day hikes up into the berg.

The Blue Grotto hike starts and finishes at the Drakensberg Sun Hotel. It’s a 2 hour walk through indigenous forests with a lovely (yet chilly) pool to swim in at your destination.

The Reptile Centre

 Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am. An opportunity to see, feel and learn about a range of reptiles

Falcon Ridge

A bird of prey centre in the Champagne Valley that includes large birds rehabilitated from injury, and provides an excellent opportunity to see these magnificent sky warriors in action. Daily shows include an informative talk and a memorable performances.

Daily raptor flight displays (10:30am) weather permitting, except Fridays.

View Bees in a Glass Hive and dress up in a Bee Suit and experience handling bees for yourself.  Bookings essential.

The Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School

Concerts most Wednesdays afternoons in term time. The school also has two annual concert weekends with visiting choirs and other performers.  Music in the Mountains festival is hosted over the April/May long weekend and a Christmas concert is held early in December each year.

Rock Art and Bushmen painting

Injisuthi – Guided hike to Battlefield Cave. Also Didima San Rock Art Centre at Didima, Cathedral Peak, and many other locations. Please enquire.

A little bit of history – The Central Berg is about 45 minutes from battlefield sites such as Spioenkop, Weenen and Frere.  About a 1 hour’s drive away is Ladysmith and the Battlefield Route with a number of Museums.  For more information on the battlefields go to

KwaZulu Weavers and Candle Factory outlet is open 7 days a week, has daily weaving demonstrations

Thokozisa Lifestyle Centre. The charming centre, which is covered by a thatched roof, was designed by a group of artists, and houses an impressive variety of small shops, galleries, playground, restaurant, bar and a tea garden, as well as the Central Berg Tourist Information Centre.

Pampering

Valley Bakery Coffee Shop and Art Gallery

Filled to the brim with tasty treats, fresh pastries, cakes and tarts and fresh-out-the-oven baked bread. You can also order light. While relaxing you can view the local artwork displayed on the walls, also available to purchase.

Scrumpy Jacks stock a wide range of items including wines, homemade jams and preserves, cheeses, farm biltong, delicious honey brittles and light meals.
They offer kids pony rides, and you may want to pet one of the friendly pigs!

Waffle Hut serves a variety of savoury and sweet pancakes and waffles, as well as light meals. Here you can also play a game of Mini-golf

Champagne Fresh Produce is open Monday to Friday from 3pm to 4pm for fruit and vegies, farm milk (bring your own containers) and eggs. Cash only.
